Hi, my name is

Ryan.

Connecting the dots, one data point at a time

A passionate data Engineer, Architect & Analyst; I aim to empower impactful decision making through the delivery of precise, quality data using modern analytical tools.

About Me

I am a data architect specialising in Cloud migrations. I have an extensuve history specialising in data; working in architecture, engineering as well as administration. I tend to preferr a hands on approach to ensure I am providing scalable solutions that are tailored to optimising applications as well as leaving room for impactful and responsive analytics, Though I also have managing a team.

Modern tech stacks are ever increasing in their demand for realtime, accurate datasets; Data optimisation has never been more critical than it is today. With the introduction of AI, Accuracy is more pivotal than it has ever been. Introducing modern technologies to aging tech can help revitalise analytics, But (in my opnion) the most important aspect of architecture; Is a clean dataset. A clean dataset is the difference between an informed decision, and a wild guess.

Here are a few technologies I've been working with recently:
  • AWS
  • Azure
  • Power BI
  • Snowflake
  • Postgres
  • MSSQL
  • MySQL
  • Mongo DB
  • Redis
  • Kafka

Experience

Data Architect - ACI Learning
Apr 2022 - Dec 2025
As the Data Architect, I was responsible for ensuring the smooth transition from traditional, on premise databases to cloud based solutions. Governing multiple tech stacks whilst ensuring isolated database instances and technologies were highly available, cloud based & optimised for clean and efficient operation. I ensured accurate ETL pipelines were established to aid in the companies endeavour to consolidate it’s various applications on a single reporting frontend.
Database Engineer
Nov 2020 - Apr 2022
I worked as a database engineer for around 18 months at Practice-labs; Introducing data warehousing to a sophisticated set of isolated applications, During this time I architected & implemnented a functioning data warehouse backend, ETL pipelines and BI dashboard frontends, to replace the companies SSRS report solution. Practice Labs was acquired by ACI Learning during this time, at which point I was promoted to Data Architect, to oversee the integration of the wider company portfolio.
Senior Systems engineer - My Prosperity
May 2019 - Jun 2020
I was brought on as the sole technical resource for My Prosperity’s endeavour to break into the UK FinTech market; During which my responsibilities included ensuring the operation and continued optimisation of the UK arms cloud based solution, As well as less technical responsibilities, such as overseeing the companies application for accreditation to the FCA. During this time, I was traveling between both the UK and the head office in Melbourne, Australia.
Senior Applications Analyst - Hexagon
Oct 2018 - May 2019
My responsibilities at Hexagon were broadly defined as 3rd line, though the main focus became the optimisation and modernisation of their tech stack; During this time I introduced the company to the concept of SSO utilising Microsoft Federated services (On prem). It was at hexagon that I was first exposed to Power BI; Creating local dashboards for internal tech reporting, as a means of optimising decision making within the department.
Dev Ops Engineer - Liberty London
Aug 2017 - Sep 2018
During my time at Liberty London, I was introduced too and took responsibility for Microsoft Dynamics AX, An enterprise retail management software with a mssql backend; One of my more notable achievements during this time, was writing a lightweight picking application to be loaded onto a barcode reader, and identify the associated product details. The application had to be written in C, and demanded a strong focus on dataset optimisation; One of the biggest challenges faced, was operating with very little memory; Which was overcome by separating the datasets by department, and allowing the picker to choose the dept (which was printed alongside picking information on the boxes)
Applications Assistant - Nandos
Jul 2015 - Aug 2017
The applications team in Nandos are responsible for the companies intranet and associated applications; Each restaurant utilises these applications on a daily basis for operations. During this time, I implemented a means of restaurant identification; As I noticed that staff both in the restaurants and head office were using outlook, to identify which restaurant code applied to which restaurant; This information was easily looked up from an application side, and changed how the company approached identification altogether; Proving that sometimes, a simple solution is all that’s needed
EPOS Asssistant
Apr 2014 - Jul 2015
My time as an EPOS assistant at nandos was my first real introduction to database operations. Each restaurant had a back office computer, which also operated as the POS server. The POS themselves had no internet connection, and so I created an application called Log Prospector; Which would retrieve a master list of search terms from a centrak database, before searching the appropriate log files on each POS terminal, and record any hits along with the associated timestamp. This allowed us to revolutionise our support for POS terminals, as we were able to accurately plot trends
IT support Technician
Sep 2013 - Apr 2014
My time as a support technician revolved around ensuring tickets were acted upon in an appropriate timeframe; Supporting both restaurant and head office staff with any technical issues. Nothing too glamourous, But the starting point for many technicians. After implementing a macro based spreadsheet to optimise our prioritisation of tickets, The EPOS manager requested I was transferred to his team; resulting in a promotion.
